簡介

First book describes those former outposts of European trade one by one.

The story begins with the first five Treaty Ports – Amoy, Canton, Foochow, Ningpo and Shanghai –this book shows how the Westerners pushed their way into china coasts in the late ninetieth century, and what challenges they face and what were the response from China. This is the first book in modern times to describe these former outposts of European trade one by one.
